Khizhnyak refers to the figure of Mikhail Pavin, an iconic personality of the Vladivostok underground, whose work inspired the artist to create the installation. By placing the enlarged image in the floor of the gallery, the author literally “embedded” the memory into space, turning the hall into a metaphor for memory – with its hidden, forgotten and reopened.
