Gastronomic master class strengthens family values

In Vladivostok school No. 52 held an unusual lesson. Not only students but also their mothers participated. All together under the leadership of the Crust restaurant team prepared ravioli in a seaside manner. This master class was a bright event in the life of fourth-graders, so the children celebrated Mother’s Day. The initiator and organizer of such a lesson was the Tourist Information Center of the Primorsky Territory (Visit Primorye). 

Mother's Day is not just a red day of the calendar. This is an opportunity to be together with the whole family, do something together, please each other with cute surprises and signs of attention, such as cooking breakfast, reading a book aloud, disassembling photos, etc. The master class gave the opportunity for both children and mothers to enjoy communication, to see with what inspiration schoolchildren create, which give attention and kindness. According to the student of the 4th grade Elena Pryakha, the coolest thing in this lesson is to be in school and cook with your mother. In turn, Nadezhda Pryakha emphasized the importance of such lessons and lamented that in her time there were no such classes, but they give a lot – and acquaintance with the profession, and the opportunity to learn something new, and just the ability to communicate. Participants of the mater class noted that the New Year holidays are not far off, and ravioli in the seaside quite fit into the festive menu. And if we talk about the recipe and ingredients, then local spices and products from seaside manufacturers were used for minced meat.

We have not had such lessons yet. It was both an interesting lesson and a delicious one. I saw the maximum involvement of children in the process. They were busy, socializing. They had no such interest before. I wish that such meetings were not limited to one lesson. To get acquainted with the history and culture of Primorye, we go to exhibitions, visit museums, participate in excursions, this is necessarily in our program. But that's the restaurants of Vladivostok came to us for the first time. It is worth adding that already during the master class and when communicating with the restaurant team, children and mothers began to make plans for the weekend with the possibility of visiting a particular cafe or restaurant. And the resulting charge of emotions schoolchildren were preparing to transfer to the family: “in the restaurant we will try, as the cook cook cooks”, “I’ll tell my mother what I cooked today”, “I’ll tell everyone how I cooked today with my mother” etc. But for high school students, such lessons can play a tangible support in choosing a specialty. In life, children see only one side of the gastronomic process, for them, due to their age, much is unknown - how it grows, how it is produced, how it is prepared, how the recipe is invented, how products complement each other, how the serving of dishes is organized, etc. And through such master classes, children get an idea of the inner kitchen and at the same time learn Primorsky Krai.

Despite their young age, they were very active and active. They asked me about the most unusual dishes, how I came into the profession, whether I cooked as a teenager and who helped me from home, what treats in our family were prepared for holidays. I am glad that children have the opportunity to get acquainted with Primorye with the help of such delicious lessons. After all, the region is rich in its resources, there are a lot of products of its production. And right next to us is the sea. All of this will be interesting to learn in this way. And it is very good that this lesson is not only for children, that parents are with them. Such gastronomic events, especially with the participation of their parents, will be interesting and useful for children. After all, they unite, support and strengthen family values, shared his thoughts the chef of the restaurant Crust Dulabov Rustam Khusnoddin-Ugli.

The organizer of gastronomic mater classes in schools of the Far Eastern capital is the Tourist Information Center of the Primorsky Territory (Visit Primorye) and the Department for Work with Municipal Education Institutions of Vladivostok. 

We recall that the project for gastronomic lessons in schools of Vladivostok was launched in the 2023-2024 academic year. During this time, chefs from 15 restaurants held 35 lessons on Far Eastern cuisine, the participants of which were about a thousand children from the second to ninth grades. This year, the lessons will be strengthened by the local history component, meetings with employees of museums and travel companies.
