Primorsky Krai is a destination for those who appreciate unique nature and active recreation. Here you can change the cityscapes to uninhabited islands or dense taiga in one day. In order for your trip to be successful, it is important to study the logistics, schedules of boats and features of local routes in advance. This guide will help you plan the perfect natural trip.

Islands and Sea Locations of Primorsky Krai

Sea trips are the base of any trip to the region. The nearest beautiful places in Vladivostok are available even without renting a boat. On Russian Island is a bridge that can only be reached by car or bus. And to the islands Popova and Reineke there are regular flights - ferries and barges from the coastal traffic station.

📆 It's convenient to visit Popov and Reyneke Islands in one day, depending on the ferry departure dates and times. Most departures are on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, so choose a suitable date for your trip in advance.

Skota Island deserves special attention. It can be accessed from Russian Island. The path lies through forest dirt roads to the coast. Indicators that you are going right, can be an abandoned military town and an active military unit. It is best to use the navigator. You can walk all the way, but the one-way road is about 20 kilometers. Once on the coast, you need to go to the island on foot on a pebble spit from the Russian island at low tide.

💡 Be sure to check the tide table before leaving, so as not to stay on the island overnight.  It should also be borne in mind that in the rainy season the roads are very blurred and you can drive to the coast only on SUVs.

The southern islands of the region require more complex preparation. Furugelm Island is the southernmost in Russia. You can get here only as part of the excursion group, since this is the territory of the reserve. Here you will see the largest colonies of seabirds and rare black vultures. Petrov Island is famous for its yew grove. Excursions there are strictly limited, boat tickets must be booked a few weeks before the trip.

Practical tips for sea routes:

  • There are shops on the islands of Reineke and Popov, but on Shkota and Furugelm you need to take all the food and water with you.
  • For walks on the spit on the island of Shkota, choose shoes with a good tread: during the transition of the spit, the stones can be slippery.
  • Communication on remote islands often disappears - download offline maps in advance.
  • The sea is always colder than the shore, so the windbreaker is a must-have element of clothing

The choice between islands depends on your budget and time. The nearby islands are suitable for budget day trips, while the southern ones require significant transfer costs and official permits, but guarantee a lack of crowds and pristine beaches.

Mountains and rock complexes of Primorsky Krai

If you want to see Russia's beautiful places from above, go hiking along the peaks of the Sikhote-Alin Mountains. The most popular mountain is Pidan (Livadiyskaya). The journey to the top and back takes about eight hours. The route is rocky, requires medium physical training and comfortable trekking boots. The highest point of the edge is Mount Cloud. Climbing it is more difficult because of the remoteness, you will need a prepared SUV to throw to the foot.

In addition to the main peaks, pay attention to other interesting locations:

Mountain Falaza: a great option for a family hike, the ascent is not as steep as Pidan.
Mountains of Olkchovaya with its most famous mountains and mountains from the lakes.
Chandalaz Ridge: This is an ancient reef with deep caves and sheer cliffs.
• Castle Rock: Located in the Lazovsky District, it resembles a medieval stone structure. Rock Castle: located in the Lazovsky district and resembles a medieval stone structure.

Mountain routes of Primorye vary greatly in complexity and accessibility. For the first ascent, it is better to choose Phalaza or Pidan as part of an organized group, and for a trip to Cloud or Olkhovaya you need to plan a full-fledged expedition with an overnight stay at the foot.

And to make the adventures even more meaningful, you can join the project Primorsky Bars The program offers to conquer the top ten main peaks of the region. Everyone who copes with the task and provides supporting materials (photos and tracks) will receive a badge “Seaside Bars” and recognition from the tourist community.

Primorye Reserves and National Parks

The region's protected areas are among the most beautiful natural sites in Russia for observing rare species. Each park has its own specific features and visiting regulations:

Bikin: the territory of the "Russian Amazon", where you can get acquainted with the culture of the Udegeans and ride traditional dungeon boats.

Land of the Leopard: modern eco-trails have been developed here. This is the best place to learn about the life of the planet's rarest cat and see the tracks of predators.

Tiger Call: attracts tourists by Mount Sister and waterfalls. This is an ideal place for multi-day hikes.

• Ussurisky Reserve: here are preserved massifs of liana coniferous-broad-leavage forests, where the famous biologist Vladimir Komarov worked.

The Khanka Nature Reserve is a birdwatcher's paradise. Lake Khanka is the largest freshwater reservoir, home to hundreds of bird species.

Lazov Reserve: famous for its spotted deer and bays with clean sand.

Far Eastern Marine Reserve: the only place where marine life and coastal landscapes are protected.

Visiting most nature reserves requires a permit and an inspector's escort. If you're traveling with children, choose Land of the Leopard for its well-developed infrastructure, and for true taiga adventure and ethnography, head to Bikin National Park in the north of the region.

Traveling around Primorye is a challenge and a pleasure at the same time. Nature is wild here, so always put safety first. Register routes in the Ministry of Emergency Situations, take with you insect protection and monitor the weather forecast. Compliance with simple rules will make your trip comfortable, and the impressions of what you see will stay with you for life.
