On the eve of the New Year according to the Eastern calendar in the Yamalo-Nenets District Museum and Exhibition Complex named after I.S. Shemanovsky settled ... dragons.

Valuable exhibits arrived in the Arctic from the Museum-Reserve of the History of the Far East named after V.K. Arsenyev. According to Diana Sorokin, researcher at the Arsenyev Museum, the exhibition “The Legend of Dragons” is 135 items from our collections that acquaint guests and residents of the region with one of the main symbols of Eastern culture. In the mythology of China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, dragons occupy a significant place, which is reflected in culture, especially in the visual arts. Made of porcelain, ceramics, textiles, metal and wood, the figures presented at the exhibition give the image of the dragon in all its diversity. The presence of a large number of stories is quite justified. The countries of the Far East and Southeast Asia are neighboring countries with the Russian Far East, Diana comments.

The exhibition will last until mid-April. The staff of the museum and exhibition complex prepared several surprises for their visitors. For example, on February 10, when the second new moon after the winter solstice heralds the beginning of the Eastern New Year, the first 50 visitors to the Legends of Dragons exhibition will receive a gift from the symbol of the year – a fortune cookie. The project is a continuation of cooperation between museums. In 2022, colleagues from Salekhard brought to Vladivostok unique exhibits for the inter-museum exhibition. “Trip to the East. Ostrogs of Siberia" - "This is a story about how the lands beyond the Stone Belt were developed, from the Urals to the Pacific Ocean, about the life and life of the inhabitants of the first Siberian prisons and indigenous peoples of Siberia.
