This year, the Society for the Study of the Amur Territory celebrates its anniversary - 140 years.

On the date of the announcement of the first charter of the Society, April 18, guides of the PKO RGO-OIAC together with the Tourist Information Center of the Primorsky Territory (Visit Primorye) with the support of the Tourism Agency of the Primorsky Territory, free excursions were organized and conducted at once on nine routes.

The symbolic start of the excursions was the place of the organization of the Primorsky Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society - Peter the Great Territory - the 4th Street. The average duration of excursions is 1.5 hours, on each of the routes there were 25 to 30 people. Thus, more than 220 people became participants of these landmark events in honor of the Society's Jubilee.

Free excursions are our opportunity to tell both guests and residents about Vladivostok and its cultural and historical potential. Our city is young, but has already experienced many important events and over 163 years has accumulated a large amount of information and facts that we and our guides want to share. We hope that the guests of our excursions will not stop there, but will continue to visit organized walks and routes conducted by our colleagues and partners, said Anastasia Povetkina, Deputy Head of the Tourist and Information Center of the Primorsky Territory (Visit Primorye) about the idea of organizing the event

We enjoyed walking around the city center. It would seem that we go to these places so often, but we know so little about what was here before. The guide told in detail and vividly how our city developed and changed. It was interesting to learn about those personalities, thanks to which he became the way we know him today, said one of the participants of the excursions.

It is a great honor to be a member of the oldest scientific and educational society and a great responsibility. As it was written in the charter of the society: "The purpose of the people included in it is selfless labor for the benefit of society." The guides of the section with great enthusiasm conduct free walking tours on significant dates for Vladivostok. Professionals studying the literature, which is rich in the library of the Society for the Study of the Amur Territory, offer exclusive routes that can delight the most refined listener, said Elena Ilyashenko, an acting tour guide, member of the PKO RGS-OIAC.

Free excursions for guests and residents of the city - this is a project of the Tourist Information Center of the Primorsky Territory (Visit Primorye), which is held jointly with the Primorsky Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society of the Autonomous Region. The first experience of such walks in the historical center of the city took place in 2018. In subsequent seasons, free excursions were held as part of thematic events, national holidays and other city events.

Historical background: The Amur Region Research Society is the first scientific and educational organization in the Russian Far East. It was founded in 1884 as an independent organization. Already in 1894, the OIAC became part of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society and in our time, preserving its historical identity, is called the Primorsky Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society - the Society for the Study of the Amur Territory.
