In Primorye, fans of outdoor activities have their priorities and popular objects of visit. The “Three Whales” of such a pastime are trips to Pidan, the Valley of Atlantis and the Dardanelles Gorge. The fascination with mountains is growing, and the season is not a hindrance to this.

The most popular peak in Primorsky Krai was Mount Livadia (Pidan): in 2024 it became the goal of every second ascent. The second place in terms of the number of visits is the Dardanelles gorge (23%), the third is Lithuanian (Falaza) – it has 13%. The Valley of Atlantis and Mount Olkhovaya closed the top five.

The vast majority of active Primorsky residents (95%) prefer to go to the mountains once a season.

At the same time, the number of tourists who visited the hills in 2024 more than once, for the year increased by 6%. Half of tourists (54%) spend less than an hour at the summit, one in five are delayed by two hours, and 19% of travelers stay for three hours. Only 7% of tourists are ready to spend more than four hours on the mountain. The most popular month for hiking in the mountains in Primorye in 2024 was August. The second place was taken in November, and the third was divided between September and October. At the same time, tourist activity in the Primorye mountains is recorded all year round, including in the winter months. The peak of daily attendance falls on 14-15 hours.

The most numerous group of mountain hikers are tourists aged 35-44 years. Slightly less active travelers 45-54 years and children under 17 years. Young people aged 18-24 are the least likely to go to the mountains. The ratio of male and female tourists with a large advantage in favor of men is 70% of the “mountain” tourists of the stronger sex. Most lovers of hiking are Primorye themselves (95% of visits). And among non-resident tourists, seaside hills are popular among residents of the Khabarovsk Territory, the Amur Region, Sakhalin, Transbaikalia and Moscow.

Digital solutions of MTS based on impersonal big data help, among other things, to create a digital portrait of a tourist interested in hiking and active recreation. This allows you to objectively assess the popularity and seasonality of mountain routes, find out where guests come from, what age and gender they are. Based on the information received, we plan to develop a high-speed Internet network so that Primorsky residents and guests of the region have universal access to digital services. Also, big data allow us to assess the adequacy of tourist infrastructure, help in its planning and effective development, said Evgenia Sysoyeva, Director of MTS in Primorsky Krai.
