A bowing cross will be erected near the Gamova Peninsula on the “Land of the Leopard”

The eight-meter cross will be erected near the viewing platform on one of the highest peaks of the Gamovsky cluster section of the Land of the Leopard National Park. The Orthodox symbol will appear here in memory of the Russian discoverers of these places and as a reminder of the unity of nature and spirit.

The initiator and customer of the project is the Far Eastern Leopards ANO. In 2019, this non-profit organization, which owns the territory of the Gamovsky cluster site, organized its inclusion in the Land of the Leopard National Park. Five years of high-quality protection of the territory have borne fruit: the site almost does not suffer from fires, Far Eastern leopards and Amur tigers returned here. For the purpose of environmental education and support of the work on the preservation of unique nature, ecological tourism is developing at the Gamovsky cluster site. As part of the excursion “Deer and the Sea”, guests visit the site with a beautiful view of several petals of turquoise bays and picturesque islands of the Eastern section of the Far Eastern Marine Reserve. It is near this site that an eight-pointed Orthodox cross is planned to be erected - one of the symbols of Russian culture.

Installation of a bow cross on this site has several meanings at once. First of all, it is a tribute to the memory of Russian pioneers who took part in the discovery and development of the coasts of the south of modern Primorye. Thanks to them in the XIX century, these places became part of the Russian Empire. Later, thanks to the Russian people on this land, it was possible to preserve the unique nature and animals, largely exterminated in the border countries. 

Another important meaning of the installation of a bow cross on the "Gamovsky", as representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church note, is a reminder to guests of this amazing place about the connection between the beauty of nature and the beauty of the Orthodox faith. These concepts are inseparable in the minds of Orthodox Christians, and their mutual complement thanks to an important symbol in such a picturesque place is designed to serve to expand the image and impression of being here. Currently, in the Khasan municipal district of Primorye, work is already underway to create a cross design. A lot of work will be done for its installation, which is planned to be completed in the summer of 2024. The leadership of the FSBI "Land of the Leopard" has already reached an agreement on the blessing of the newly built cross by representatives of the Vladivostok diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.
