Conquerors of the ice walls will gather in Primorye for the DFO Championship and the stage of the Cup of Russia

The long-awaited events of this winter will take Primorsky Krai. On the beloved Big icicle on the rock of Przewalski, ice climbing competitions will be held. On January 20-21, athletes will compete for the prizes of the Championship of the Far Eastern Federal District and Primorsky Krai, and on February 3-4, Primorye will host the Stage of the Cup of Russia. The best athletes from all over the country in this sport will compete in qualifying on the Big Icicle on February 3, and on February 4 the finals will be held in the Art Park Shtykovsky Ponds. According to the Federation of Mountaineering of Primorsky Krai, about 40 athletes are expected to participate in the Championship of the Far Eastern Federal District and Primorsky Krai. Readiness for the starts was confirmed by icebreakers of Primorye, Khabarovsk and Kamchatka Territories. Sakhalin athletes are also expected to participate. In February, Primorye is waiting for the elite of Russian ice sports. “We look forward to the stars of this sport. These athletes are part of the national team of the country and are multiple winners of the World Cup stages and world championships. All of them are either masters of sports, masters of sports of international class, or honored masters of sports. Due to the restrictions in international competitions, we will not have foreign participants. If someone comes, they participate for their own pleasure, but not for the result. International competitions will be held in March in Tyumen, explained Polina Kupchik, member of the Federation and organizer of the competitions. The stages of the Cup of Russia were held in Primorye three times: in 2019, 2020 and in 2023. The current stage is the fourth. Athletes are already actively registering for participation in the Russian Cup Stage. To conquer the almost 60-meter slope of the Przhevalsky rock near the village of Ekaterinovka will be about fifty icebreakers from the central regions of Russia, Siberia and the Far East. Competitions on plywood will end – a special design was erected on the territory of the Shtykovsky Ponds art park. Competitions will be held in two disciplines: difficulty and speed. The complexity of the route depends on the imagination of the directors. And the higher the athlete rises, the better his result. Prizes will be distributed between men and women.
