The fifth stream of the "School of the Young Guide" was completed in Primorye.
More than 20 graduates completed a course of study, where they learned the basics of excursions and local history for three months. The training program included the study of the regulatory framework, work on communication with tourists, acquaintance with the history and tourist opportunities of our region. A separate unit studied aspects of the tour guide from interaction with the group to the development of their routes. Also, while studying at the School of the Young Guide, the children were able to become participants in the intellectual, local history game “What? Where? When? and go to the final. Students 14-16 years old became listeners.
The Tourist Information Center of Primorsky Krai (Visit Primorye) emphasized that practical work on the existing excursion routes of Vladivostok was necessarily included in the training of schoolchildren. Thus, the participants were able to discover the world of the tour guide profession in a new way and listen to excursions from industry experts.
This is the fifth time we are holding the Young Guide School, and every time we see how the flow of applications from those wishing to study excursions is growing. While teaching this course, they have already started pre-recording for the next season. Approximately, classes will begin in the autumn of 2024. It is a pleasure that many of the students were active during the training and took part in all our lectures. The beginning of the tourist season is approaching, and we have many interesting projects and joint work with young guides to promote the tourist potential of our city, said Anastasia Povetkina, Deputy Head of the Tourism and Information Department of the Tourist Information Center of the Primorsky Territory. And every time we see the growing interest of the School participants in the study of excursion studies and the history of the region. Attracting the young generation to work in the tourism industry is an opportunity for both career guidance and popularization of our region through creative ideas and new opportunities from our young guides, Nadezhda Konyaeva, Deputy Head of the Department for Youth Affairs of the Vladivostok Administration, shared the results of the School of Young Guide. One liked the speakers’ individual approach to the process and the original methodology they used. Others emphasize that an integrated approach to learning helped master a large amount of material: the “heavy” historical part was complemented by a playful approach and various interactions. This approach made it possible to study, among other things, complex directions in the work of the guide. The final exam for the listeners was the protection of the acquired knowledge through a test tour. After three months of study, future guides were able to try themselves in the profession and show the expert commission how well they mastered the theory and practical knowledge of the course. All participants were awarded certificates of successful completion of the course. The organizers of the lectures “School of the Young Guide” for schoolchildren are the Tourist Information Center of the Primorsky Territory (Visit Primorye) together with the Primorsky Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, the Primorsky Regional Branch of the League of Young Journalists and the Youth Department of Vladivostok with the support of the Primorsky Territory Tourism Agency.
