Work on a new guidebook "ABC of Primorye" has reached the final stage. The initiator of this “assistant” for tourists was the Tourist Information Center of the Primorsky Territory (Visit Primorye) with the support of the Ministry of Tourism of the Primorsky Territory [https://region.visit-primorye.ru/] ] . The main partner was the Primorsky regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society - the Society for the Study of the Amur Region.
The new guidebook makes it possible not only to plan an interesting route, but also to take into account the history of the region. On its pages there will be native, toponymic tips for traveling around the region.
The list of objects is compiled by analogy with the familiar alphabet. So, for each letter in the register you can find tourist objects - from "A" to "Z". "ABC of Primorye" gives an opportunity not only to get acquainted with the tourist potential, but also to understand the toponymy of the territory of the region as an integral part of the historical and cultural heritage of the Primorsky Territory
The toponymy of certain specific places is not always clear to guests and causes many questions, and sometimes confusion: there are often cases when one name sounds in conversation, and another is printed on maps. Now the "ABC of Primorye" will clarify many issues.
A new guide with a list of seaside objects in alphabetical order will help to understand the features of the seaside geographical names and avoid substitution of names. And it will increase the recognition of the seaside objects of the show. Thanks to creativity and non-standard approach in the formation of the list of objects, residents and guests of the city will be able to learn more about the rich tourist potential of the region. The basis of this list was formed by students of the leading universities of the region in the free format of “brainstorming”. Further, members of a specially created working group, which included experts, local historians, tour guides and representatives of the tourist business, will join the case. And they have already formed the final list of places to visit. Each letter is natural objects, monuments, architectural sights and any other points of attraction of tourists. According to the rules of registration "azbuki" on one letter can be added several objects. But in printed format, the list of objects will be limited: one for each of the letters of the alphabet. In the electronic version, the list of places of display and visit will be much larger.
The geography of attractions coverage is the entire Primorsky Territory. They will be supplemented with photos and drawings.
The ABC guide will be freely available, its distribution for guests and residents of the city is free. So that the guidebook is complete and objective, so that all corners of Primorye are taken into account, so that this project “enters” the people, a number of accompanying events are planned.
And one of them has already become the exhibition “Hasan – the Pearl of Primorye” [https:/visit-primorye.ru/news/zhemchuzhiny-primorya-prezentovali-v-khasanskom-rayone/], which was held in August 2024 in the Hasansky district. Each photo presented is a unique, bright and unique world of the southern part of Primorye: picturesque bays, turquoise sea, colorful kekura, sea expanses and endless panoramas. The authors of the images used place names as an integral part of the historical and cultural heritage of the Primorsky Territory. In the photos, each of them revealed their vision of southern natural beauty. Until the end of the year, it is planned to implement a regional competition for children's drawings (the drawings of the winners will be included in the guidebook "ABC of Primorye").
"We have been conducting the project "ABC of Primorye" for a year. The idea was born when Primorsky Krai celebrated its 85th anniversary. First, they decided to organize a thematic photo exhibition, where the authors of the images could show the natural color of our region and where in each work they use toponomics as the language of creativity. But the project is growing, and the number of activities is increasing. And now we are creating ABC, forming an electronic version, competitions, meetings, etc. are ahead, explained Anastasia Povetkina, Deputy Head of the Tourism and Information Department of the Tourist Information Center of the Primorsky Territory (Visit Primorye). So, on sale in the bookstores of the city you can find a number of books using the alphabet. For each main symbol of the city there is a poem or part of the articles is devoted to place names and reliable facts, the other - myths and local words. How does the "ABC of Primorye" work in practice?
The ABC of Primorye will help to understand the toponymy of all names and deal with secrets and riddles. In an easily accessible and correct form, the collection combines scientific and familiar names, including folk ones. For example, the popular peak of Pidan is actually Mount Livadia. And about it really put a lot of legends and myths. Almost every tourist coming to Vladivostok visits the Tokarevsky lighthouse. It is located on the Skota Peninsula. But the locals call this area - Egerskjöld district. And the popular waterfall Black Shaman on all maps is marked as the Great Amgin Falls. Where did these names come from? why did others take root? what do they mean? – answers to these questions and many others can be found in the “ABC of Primorye”.
