The Museum and Exhibition Complex and the VVSU Resource and Information Center opened the exhibition "At the Origins of Russian Science: in the Center and on the Outskirts."

The project is timed to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the 140th anniversary of the Society for the Study of the Amur Region (OIAC). The exhibition is held with the support of the Institute of Creative Industries of VVSU and JIAC, the Tourist Information Center of Primorsky Krai (Visit Primorye) and the Department of Youth Affairs of Vladivostok.

The opening of the exhibition took place in the VVSU museum complex on Wednesday, March 20. The meeting was attended by representatives of the museum and exhibition complex, the teaching staff of Vladivostok State University and presented the sections of local history and excursion studies of the PKO RGS-OIAC. 2024 is an anniversary in the history of both “big” metropolitan – academic science, and “small” regional – local history. After all, this year, in addition to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences, another memorable date is celebrated - the 140th anniversary of the Society for the Study of the Amur Region. In the Petrovsky project, the Academy of Sciences is listed as a “society of sciences and arts”, i.e. a society designed to unite theoretical and applied sciences. The activity of the Society for the Study of the Amur Region was inspired by the same vocation.

The exhibition will acquaint you with the names of those who, by asceticism and discoveries, wrote its initial pages into the history of science in Russia and our region.

" This year we are especially pleased to open such events in the university, where many young people study, especially because this year Vladivostok has the honorary status of the Youth Capital of Russia. We want our younger generation to pay attention to the history of the places where they live, study and work. Since its foundation, members of the Society for the Study of the Amur Territory have set themselves the task of developing local history. I hope that this exhibition will attract a lot of attention from both students and applicants, said the chairman of the section of local studies and excursion studies of the PKO RGS-JIAC, representative of the Tourist Information Center of the Primorsky Territory (Visit Primorye) Daria Guseva. They can join the study of local history through visits to the lecture of the Society, the schedule is presented at the exhibition. Using the example of the work and selfless efforts of the first researchers of the JIAC, we want to inspire young people to new achievements, Nadezhda Sukhareva, Director of the Museum and Exhibition Complex, shared her impressions.

The Academy of Sciences was established in Russia 300 years ago by Emperor Peter I. The purpose of this educational institution was to educate the country. In the XVIII – XIX centuries, the Academy was a “club of authoritative scientists”, a gathering of experts who drew the attention of the Government and the monarch to the key issues of state development. Academics concentrated in Moscow and St. Petersburg studied the vast country by organizing complex expeditions. The scientific foundations for the study of the territory, resources and peoples of the country, laid by the Academy, in the XIX century were picked up by scientific communities in the regions.

Ussuri Territory was divided in 1938 into Khabarovsk and Primorsky Krai and became part of the Russian Empire in the second half of the XIX century, completing the unification of the country from the western borders to the Pacific Ocean. In the study of the new region, together with complex expeditions, members of the first scientific community of Pacific Russia - the Society for the Study of the Amur Region, which was founded on April 30, 1884, actively participated. Thanks to their unselfish labors, a huge unexplored region was quickly incorporated into the unified space of Russia and opened for study, development and development. The exhibition will last until April 13, 2024.

The material and photos were prepared and provided by the VVSU press service.
