Viktor Shalai elected Chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Eastern Development of Russia

The Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation hosted the first meeting of the new Public Council under the Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic of the Russian Federation.

During the event, the participants unanimously elected the Chairman of the Council and his deputies, and discussed the results of the Public Council in 2023 and the tasks for the near future. The meeting was attended by Pavel Volkov, State Secretary – Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic. The Chairman of the Public Council was elected Victor Shalay, Director of the State United Museum-Reserve of the History of the Far East named after V. K. Arsenyev. The deputies are Dmitry Golovanov, Deputy Director for Communications and Communications of SUEK JSC and Boris Stupnitsky, Chairman of the Council of the Public Chamber of Primorsky Krai, President of the Union “Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Primorsky Krai”. Pavel Volkov noted that the development of the Far East was declared by President Vladimir Putin a national priority for the entire XXI century: For all of us, this is a great responsibility, taking into account the strategic importance of the territory, which, on the one hand, makes up more than 55% of the country and contains the wealth of our Motherland – gas, oil, minerals, fish, forest. But, at the same time, where only 7% of Russians live. Our main goal is to make life in the Far Eastern and Arctic territories even more comfortable, interesting and rich. I am sure that you will actively take part in solving priority tasks aimed at accelerating the development of the economy and improving the quality of life of people. 

Far Easter in the fifth generation Viktor Shalay has been managing the Museum-Reserve of the History of the Far East named after V.K. Arsenyev for more than 10 years. He is the author of the collection “Vladivostok 1860-2010: the view of a contemporary”, the author of exhibition and exposition projects that are presented in Russian and foreign museums, is a member of the Presidium of the Russian Committee of the International Council of Museums, a member of the Presidential Council for Culture and Art, is a member of the Coordinating Council for Culture under the Governor of Primorsky Krai. Victor Shalay thanked the members of the Council for their trust and promised his colleagues a rich working agenda.

My task is to ensure that the current composition of the Council is no less effective than previous ones, but also as effective as possible in the space of those opportunities that we have. Time is changing, the regulatory framework is changing, the work of the ministry is developing, the state sets new tasks. Therefore, we need to take all the best that our predecessors did, understand how relevant this is for the next 3 years and put it into the basis of planning, said Viktor Shalay. The Public Council under the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic was created to ensure that the needs and interests of citizens are taken into account, their rights and freedoms are protected, as well as the rights of public associations in the implementation of state policy in the part related to the field of activity of the Ministry of Eastern Development of the Russian Federation, as well as in order to exercise public control over the work of the Ministry
