Located near the city's Central Square is Admiral Fokin Street, which is known as the Arbat of Vladivostok. It is relatively short (less than a kilometer) and is meant only for pedestrians.
This is one of the oldest streets in the city, which was formerly called Beijing Street after the Beijing Treaty of 1860 (the year Vladivostok was founded), which finally delineated Russian and Chinese territories in the Far East. A century later, the street was renamed after an admiral who had commanded the Pacific Fleet for many years. In 2011, a major reconstruction of the Arbat was carried out, changing the architectural composition of this part of the city. On both sides of the pedestrian zone, closer to the buildings, alleys were created, and the fountains in the central part were renovated. Benches and retro-style streetlamps were installed between the plantings.
From April to November, there are active street musicians and representatives from various youth movements and groups here, all of whom are peaceful and friendly.
