As soon as the snow comes down and the earth wakes up from hibernation, it is immediately covered by a carpet of primrose, and then a blue-pink cloud blooms on the hills of Primorye rhododendron - a miracle of Far Eastern nature. This is the time when you need to give up all your worries and go on a journey to see with your own eyes the flowering of rhododendron. In terms of beauty, it is not inferior to cherry blossoms in Japan ...
In the Primorsky Territory, eight species of this plant grow in the natural environment, and in the outskirts of Vladivostok - one that needs protection. However, the name “rhododendron” never took root in Primorye – everyone stubbornly continues to call it a bagulnik. Although these are different plants!
The program of the rhododendron festival
The flowering period of rhododendron is very short: from mid-April to mid-May. In the spring of 2024, the Tourist Information Center of the Primorsky Territory (Visit Primorye) together with the Government and the Ministry of Tourism of the Primorsky Territory for the first time organized the spring local history Festival of Rhododendron. This is the first such festival in Russia. Primorsky residents and guests of the region were waiting for a large program: in one “bundle” were tourism, gastronomy, science, creativity and culture.
> Within two weeks, everyone could go on excursions to the flowering places of rhododendron at special prices. There were more than 15 such excursions to choose from. There was a festival and a gastronomic direction. In the partner restaurants of the festival, everyone could try desserts and drinks inspired by the flowering of rhododendron, for example, a dessert with mint biscuit and berry yogurt or creamy barberry mousse with a filling of mint jelly. Photo exhibitions unfolded on city sites, where you could see in the frame different types of flowering rhododendron in various places of the Primorsky Territory.

And its flowering is a reason for creativity. Thanks to the festival program, the whole of Russia will be able to admire this miracle of nature. The festival is designed to draw the attention of guests and residents of the region to the richness and beauty of nature, its strength and fragility. The event will not be a one-time event – this is definitely, it will be held annually, and there are already plans for the future, says Olga Gurevich, Director of the Tourist Information Center of Primorye.
