And in 1884, the Museum of the Society for the Study of the Amur Region appeared in a very young city - today it is known to guests and residents as the Museum of the History of the Far East named after V.K. Arsenyev. The first building for him - the current Museum of the City on Peter the Great Street, 6 (near the Triumphal Arch of Tsarevich Nicholas) - the townspeople built "all over the world": charitable amateur performances and an exhibition were organized, Vladivostok residents donated for the needs of construction who is a horse, who is building materials, who is money. Thanks to joint efforts, on September 30, 1890, the first museum in Eastern Siberia was solemnly opened to visitors.
The godfather of the Museum was Vladimir Klavdievich Arsenyev - an officer, traveler, writer, scientist, whose name the Museum bears. For thirty years, lived in the Far East, Arsenyev conducted twelve major expeditions, discovered more than 200 archaeological sites and collected extensive collections that replenished the museum collection
Collection and display of antiquities is not the only task of the Museum. In addition, he communicates with museums of other cities, exchanges experience and exhibits. What are, for example, the Far Eastern Conference of Regional Museums or the project “Collecting Russia”, within the framework of which Vladivostok saw unique exhibits from Perm, Murom, Veliky Novgorod and Ivanovo.
Six years in a row, the museum successfully implements projects with the Museums of the Moscow Kremlin, allowing residents and guests of the city to get acquainted with the treasures of the royal family. In addition, the Museum constantly hosts events, including city-scale, educational and entertainment programs for children and adults, film meetings, lectures, round tables, where a variety of topics are discussed.
