Cape Bruce
Hassan MO

Everyone has a place of power. A place you can go back to endlessly. A place where you put your thoughts in order. Or you can forget about all thoughts for a while, disconnect from all problems and worries. In Primorye, such a place is located 180 kilometers from Vladivostok. Unreal landscapes, the rumble of waves crashing against rocks, the salty wind knocking down and tearing clouds into the sky. It feels like you’re somewhere in the Faroe Islands or Iceland. But no, it's Russia. This is Primorye. This is Cape Bruce.

Although there is some confusion with the names. For example, the lighthouse standing here is either Bruce's lighthouse, Busse's lighthouse, or Busse. And in whose honor the cape is named, it is also not known for certain

These places were first described and mapped in 1855 by the crews of the British warships Winchester and Barracuda, and in 1862 the peninsula was described for the second time by the hydrographic expedition of Lieutenant Colonel Babkin. Bruce’s name appears on Babkin’s map, published in 1865, and on an English map published in 1868. Probably, the British gave the name of the peninsula and the cape after the name of the English Admiral Bruce, who in 1855 commanded a squadron that visited the abandoned Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The memory of the English admiral was gradually erased, but a new version appeared that the name immortalized the name of Peter I's associate Count Yakov Vilimovich Bruce. Which of these versions is true, it is impossible to find out.

Cape Bruce is a real miracle of nature! It is a basaltic columns – frozen streams of magma that once broke out of the bowels to the surface of the earth. On these columns you can jump, climb, but it is better to be careful. Especially since there are always strong winds here. In clear weather from the cape you can even see Vladivostok and Russky Island.

The entire coast of the Bruce Peninsula is very picturesque. A trail has been laid along the rocky shores. Walk around and enjoy the scenery. I assure you, the walk will be long due to frequent stops for photography.

How to get there: Bruce Peninsula is located near the village of Slavyanka in the Hasan district of Primorsky Krai. You can get there both by your own transport and by bus from Vladivostok. The distance from the edge center is about 180 kilometers.
