Russian Island is a proud and symbolic name given by Count Muravyov-Amursky to one of the largest Russian islands in the Pacific Ocean. Behind this sonorous name lies a centuries-old history full of victories and defeats, prosperity and decline, bloody strife and unprecedented holiness. It is difficult to overestimate the importance of the Russian island in the fate of Russia and especially Primorsky Krai. As a century and a half ago, and now this large island with a harsh character plays an important role in the fate of all Russians.

The island has beautiful outlines, its coastline is indented by deep and shallow bays and bays. In the northern part of the island more gently coast. The Sapperny Peninsula is separated from the rest of the mainland by Novik Bay, which forms an inland water area. Entrance to Novik Bay is between Cape Elagin and Cape Staritsky.

In the northern part of the island, on the north-eastern coast, the bays of Paris and Ajax are located. The southern coast of the island, severe and rocky, is open to all sea winds and hurricanes of these latitudes. Russian Island is a variety of island landscapes of land, sea coast, surface and underwater rocks, on different parts of the coast of the island you can see bizarre rocks, kekurs, reefs and arches.

The animal world of the island is rich, there are wild goats and foxes, chipmunks and hedgehogs. On the rocks of the southern coast there are many bird bazaars, where gulls and cormorants nest, rare birds. In 1901, Vladimir Klavdievich Arsenyev brought spotted deer and foxes to the island. Deer have been bred on the island for many years, but now the spotted deer is not found here.

A large natural lake is located on the Akhlestyshev Peninsula.

Another attraction of the island is the Russian Bridge. This is a cable-stayed bridge across the Vostochny Bosporus Strait, connecting the island with Vladivostok.

Russian island is suitable for hiking. The most popular destination is Cape Tobizin. The walk will take about 3 hours. The cape has amazing nature. A special entourage of the place gives the rocks. Millions of years of weathering have done their job, giving them the most bizarre shapes.

All over Tobisin run wild foxes that are not afraid of man. Feeding them is not recommended, but you will definitely succeed in making several frames from a short distance.

For fans of outdoor activities, we recommend surfing, here at Cape Akhlestyshev there is the only surf camp in Primorye. And fans of fresh seafood can visit the Bay of Voevoda: here on the farm serve the freshest oysters, scallops and mussels.

History lovers can go on a tour of the forts of Vladivostok, there are quite a lot of them on the Russian island, some of them are restored. For example, it is worth visiting the Novosiltsevo battery or Fort Pospelov.

Russian Island is a unique place that has no analogues in the modern world. It is a valuable historical and cultural object, a reliable barrier against enemy attacks, a business and scientific center of the Far East. Everyone who visits here will find their own Russian, because he is so different ... and one of them.
