Primorsky Krai, the village of Steklianukha
About 900 years ago, it was the city of Jurchen, a military fortress and the administrative center of the Jin Empire.

In the Shkotovsky district of Primorye there is one special place - the ancient Steklyakhinskoe settlement. About 900 years ago, it was the city of Jurchen, a military fortress and the administrative center of the Jin Empire. The first studies of the settlement were conducted in the 80s of the XX century, after which there was a big pause, but until recently.

Since 2020, within the framework of the implementation of the grant of the Government of the Primorsky Territory, the project "Steklyakhinsky settlement" was launched. During two seasons, scientists conduct excavations at the site, promote the cultural heritage of Primorye and create infrastructure for comfortable visits to the archaeological site by residents and guests of the region.

The key result of the project will be the creation of an archaeological landscape park, the first full-fledged museum-fictional archaeological monument. This archaeological park has no analogues in the Russian Far East.

Steklyakhinsky settlement has now become an object of attraction for numerous tourists, people interested in archaeology and history of the region. During the work of the expedition, excavations are carried out in the “open mode”, that is, anyone has the opportunity to come and personally observe the work of archaeologists, to see how artifacts and ruins of ancient buildings are extracted from the ground for the first time in a thousand years. For those who wish to participate in the excavation, the organizers offer this opportunity. For visitors, archaeologists conduct excursions around the settlement and every weekend organize various popular science events (informative lectures on the history of the region, master classes on the reconstruction of ancient crafts, entertaining competitions for children, etc.)

In 2022, the archaeological expedition will continue its work. What will be offered to visitors of the Steklyakhinsky settlement is an equipped excursion route around the settlement with a length of about 750 m. It is possible to conduct a tour for groups of 10 people, and an independent visit to the route (for this purpose, a free audio guide for mobile devices was specially developed). A visit to the “open archaeological site” provides an opportunity to see how archaeologists work. By prior agreement, participation in excavations is possible.

Every weekend, popular science events are held in a specially equipped pavilion or on an open site: educational lectures, master classes, competitions and classes for children. Lectures and master classes are often conducted by famous scientists.

The pavilion constantly has an exhibition (mini-museum) of archaeological finds discovered during excavations; there are mini-attractions for children (archaeological sandbox, archaeological drawing).

It is possible to organize and conduct group excursions to the surrounding archaeological monuments (the town "On the Fighting Hill" and the Smolyaninovsky settlement).

Archaeological expeditions to the Steklyahuhinsky settlement are held from July to September. The project team maintains pages on social networks (Vkontakte – steklyanuha), where you can find all the relevant information.

The town has convenient transport accessibility - located in the village of Steklyanukha in the Shkotovsky district of Primorsky Krai, near the Shkotovo-Partizansk highway, 1 hour drive from Vladivostok.
The Steklyakhinsky settlement is waiting for visitors, everyone has the opportunity to touch the ancient history!
