St. Nicholas Cathedral in Vladivostok is one of the Orthodox churches of the city, built in 1906-1907 on the donations of participants of the Russian-Japanese war.

Historical facts about St. Nicholas Cathedral in Vladivostok

St. Nicholas Cathedral in Vladivostok was built in 1907 in memory of those killed in the Russian-Japanese war and was originally consecrated in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Joy to All Who Sorrow." The building also housed a parish school and library.

During the Soviet period, the temple was closed, and its domes and bell tower were destroyed. In 1972, the building was transferred to the community, and restoration began. In 1976, the church was consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas, and in 1991 it became the cathedral of the diocese.

Today, tourists can visit divine services, explore the architecture of the cathedral and learn more about its history, as well as attend festivals and liturgies.

Interesting facts about St. Nicholas Cathedral

Under the cathedral there was a crypt, where in 1915 the hero of the First World War Peter Pavlov was buried. In Soviet times, after renovation, the building was first occupied by an orphanage, then a toy factory. It was later an apartment building. In St. Nicholas Cathedral, the book “Sanctuaries of St. Nicholas Cathedral” was released, which tells about its history and preserved relics.

In autumn, December 19, on the day of the patronal feast of St. Nicholas, the cathedral becomes the center of the spiritual life of the city. In winter, especially atmospheric Christmas and baptism services are held, accompanied by traditional rites.
