In Vladivostok, on February 5, another gastronomic master class of the project of the Tourist Information Center of the Primorsky Territory (Visit Primorye) was held at school No. 74, which introduces children to the Far Eastern cuisine through live communication and joint cooking. The children were visited by the brand-chef of the breakfast cafe "Omlet Station" Azamat Mukhamedov with a team of chefs and a guide of the National Center "Russia" in Primorsky Krai Yelena Lyudnitskaya - the meeting united the history of the region and its modern tastes.
The first part was devoted to traveling around the region. The children talked about the uniqueness of the Primorsky Territory: the sea and the taiga coexist here, rare animals live, and the climate creates special natural contrasts. Students learned about Vladimir Arsenyev – how his childhood dream of distant travels turned into serious expeditions, and travel notes became books known all over the world. The story of Arsenyev’s friendship with the guide Dersu Uzala was especially echoed – an example of respect for nature and people, which today sounds very modern.
To make the images livelier, the children considered the illustrations of the artist S. M. Cherkasov for the book “On the Ussuri Territory”. The paintings revived dense forests, mountain rivers and misty hills – the very places where expeditions once took place. A small quiz turned the story into a fascinating dialogue: the guys recalled the facts, asked questions and shared what they already know about their region.
Then the story smoothly passed into the practical part: the children put on aprons and began to cook Far Eastern salad with pollock. The main secret of the dish was green oil - the guys made the dressing with their own hands. The chef explained in detail how to cook it at home and how you can change the taste of a salad by adding tangerines, pomegranates or pine nuts. Each participant gathered a portion in his plate, and then the children together with the team of the cafe designed a common dish and arranged a tasting.
The master class turned out to be really warm: schoolchildren not only learned new recipes, but also felt that Far Eastern cuisine is part of their own history. Such meetings show that Primorsky Krai can be studied not only from books, but also through smells, tastes and joint creativity at the plate.
