A master class is not just a story about food, dishes, products and technologies. This is an opportunity to be creative in the preparation process. And the guys had a place to turn. They made onigiri with pollock and garlic. The event brought together the team of Izakai City and students wishing to master Japanese traditions with a seaside accent.

Onigiri is a kind of “cake” of the kitchen made of fresh rice, molded in the form of a triangle or ball. It is usually filled with stuffing and wrapped in a sheet of dried nori algae. The dish is simple only at first glance. You need to "pack" the filling, shape and wrap nori. The process captured everyone - and the cooks themselves, and the students, and the teachers of the college. Under the guidance of experienced mentors, participants learned to create appetizing rice triangles, filling them with delicate pollock and fresh garlic - a symbol of the Far Eastern spring, the gastronomic festival in honor of which ended a little earlier in Vladivostok restaurants

"Similar, when not just an event is organized, but interaction with the head of the technological department is built, I see for the first time. The initiative of this master class was supported by the head of the college. I am sure that this event will positively affect the aspiration of our students of the technological department to study. The ability to do something with your own hands, participate in the work process, learn how it goes in practice - any theory is remembered better in practice. And it is priceless, said Andrei Altukhov, a teacher of the technological department.

The emphasis on local ingredients emphasized the idea of the festival: how affordable fish can become the basis of a variety of dishes: street fast food, home lunches, haute cuisine. The guys shared their impressions: everyone is happy, they are already asking for similar classes with chefs and sous-chefs of such a high level. This is a good opportunity to gain experience.

Everything was fascinating and very interesting. I liked the process of forming onigiri the most. I really wanted to prepare something like this for my family. I think it will be delicious, — shared his thoughts 16-year-old freshman Ekaterina Kozhemyako

“Doing something with your own hands is always interesting. And at first glance, the complex process was not so difficult, because the cooks explained everything in an accessible way. Information about pollock and the festival - in the piggy bank. Now I'm looking forward to starting it. I will definitely convince my friends and parents to go to the cafe and the embankment. I would like such events to be held in our college as often as possible: this is a very good practice, added Alina Mitryashina, 2nd year student.

The festival "O! Mega Taste!" continues a series of events proving that even simple ingredients can win the hearts of gourmets, if they are cooked with soul and knowledge. And these lessons give new ideas, new plans, as a result, moving forward

This is our first experience. I hope that such meetings will be held more than once. For us, as an educational institution, it is important that students learn not only new techniques, but also learn to creatively use the gifts of their native region. Pollock is an environmentally friendly and nutritious product, often underestimated, and in combination with garlic, it reveals a unique taste. I believe that such a combination of education and gastronomy presented at the event strengthens the link between food culture and local traditions, says Pavel Ardashev, Head of the Technology Department.

Recall that the project to conduct gastro lessons in schools of Vladivostok was launched in 2023-2024 academic grounds. It was organized by the Tourist Information Center of Primorsky Krai (Visit Primorye) together with the Department for Work with Municipal Education Institutions of Vladivostok. In some cases, the theme of the lesson is integrated into the calendar of events, in particular in the pollock festival “O!Mega Vkus”. From May 19 to June 5, the festival will be held in restaurants and retail chains, and on May 30-1, the street part of the festival is scheduled.
