The Grey Horse House Ensemble

The complex of buildings on Aleutskaya Street, 17 and 19, appeared in the late 1930s, becoming the first high-rise buildings of Vladivostok. Unlike most buildings of that time, these buildings were distinguished by modern architectural solutions and structural strength.
Initially, the houses were painted pink, which made them stand out among the other buildings in the city.

History of the name "Gray Horse"
The locals call these houses "Gray Horse." Why, you ask?
Previously, a statue of a horse was located on the roof of one of the houses, and in the neighboring one, a cab driver tied his horse next to the house. I don’t know if there were any horses there. There is a theory that they still got their name because of the color of the facade - gray, in which they were repainted at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War for disguise to protect against attacks.
Best time to visit the Grey Horse
You can visit this place at any time of the year, as it is located in the center of Vladivostok. In spring and summer, houses stand out beautifully against the background of greenery, in autumn they acquire a special atmosphere, and in winter they look especially spectacular against the background of a snowy city.
For successful photos, it is best to come in the morning or in the evening, when the soft light emphasizes the historical architecture of buildings.
