The Arc de Triomphe is the eastern gate of the Russian state

The Nikolaev Triumphal Gate (arch of Tsesarevich Nicholas) was built in 1891 for the arrival of Emperor Nicholas II, then 23-year-old Tsesarevich Nicholas, in Vladivostok. The arch of Tsesarevich became the main decoration of the Admiral Square. It is built in the traditional Russian-Byzantine style. The building was destroyed during the years of Soviet power, and in May 2003 it was restored.

The arch symbolized the sea (eastern) "gates" of the Russian state, it was through them that Tsesarevich Nikolai entered the city on May 12, 1891. The place where the arch stands is unique. Not far from it is the shore of the Golden Horn Bay, where the first founders of Vladivostok landed. From here the city began, here the first buildings appeared.

From the sea side on the arch there is an icon of Nicholas of Myrlicia, the patron saint of all sailors, illuminated in Jerusalem over the tomb of the Lord. During the Soviet period, the Arc de Triomphe underwent a number of changes. In 1923, during the Civil War, all monarchical emblems and symbols were removed from it, and the arch itself was renamed Komsomolskaya. And in 1930, it was dismantled as an object that has no artistic value and interferes with the passage of transport along the First May Street.

The second life of the arch began in 1998, when the famous Vladivostok entrepreneur Alexander Yermolaev decided to recreate it at his own expense. Since the drawings were not preserved, the appearance of the monument was restored from old photographs, historical, archival and literary sources. On May 16, 2003, the grand opening of the arch took place. Tourists here often arrange photo shoots. There is a belief that if you stand in the center under the arch, you can make a cherished wish and it will come true.

Today, the Tsesarevich arch and the space around it are popular with citizens and tourists. It is located in the central part of the city next to historical memorable places: literally in two steps - the Museum of the city, the embankment of Tsesarevich, the submarine S-56, etc
