Sopka Monastyrskaya is a picturesque point in the south-eastern part of Vladivostok, which offers breathtaking views of the Russian Bridge, the Bosphorus East and the city's bays. Its main feature is the “white ball” – a geodesic dome installed in the Soviet years.

Sopka Monastyrskaya in Vladivostok - a view of the Russian Bridge and the Vostochny Bosphorus Strait

Sopka Monastyrskaya is a unique observation deck located in the southeastern part of Vladivostok. Its height is 181 meters, and from the top there is a stunning view of the main objects of the city, such as the Russian Bridge and the Vostochny Bosphorus Strait. Also here you can see the bays of Patroclus and Ulysses, and the hill itself is famous for its history and features.

One of the main attractions of the Monastery Hill is the "white ball" - a radio-transparent geodesic dome installed on its top in the Soviet years. This object was used for air defense radars and is still one of the unique landmarks of the Soviet era. In 2015, an artist from Yekaterinburg left his work on its surface – a spiral text of 2331 characters, which can be read directly under the dome. Near the hill are historical military structures, including the abandoned Ussuri mortar battery and anti-aircraft missile complex S-125.

When to go to the Monastery Hill

From spring to autumn, you can see bright landscapes here, and in the winter months the hill is covered with snow, creating even more atmospheric views, especially on the bays and bridges. The summer months are a time of bright sunshine, but it is worth remembering that climbing the trails in the heat can be difficult.

Autumn, when the foliage acquires gold and red shades, the hill is especially attractive for photo shoots, and in the spring - for those who want to enjoy fresh air and greenery.

How to get to the Monastery Hill

To get to the Monastery Hill, you need to go towards the Vladivostok Sea Cemetery. From there, along the main alley, you need to walk to an abandoned military unit, where the route to the “white ball” begins. Climbing the hill is possible both by car and on foot. The road is simple, but with elevation changes.

For convenience, it is better to move by car, and then leave it in the parking lot and continue on foot. The hill is not too difficult to climb, but in some places there may be steep areas, so it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes.
