History of the festival "Day of the Leopard" in Vladivostok
The festival "Day of the Leopard" is held in Vladivostok since 2020 in order to attract the attention of residents and guests of the city to the problem of preserving the Far Eastern leopard - one of the rarest cats in the world. Over the 13 years of existence in the Primorsky Krai of the National Park "Land of the Leopard" impressive results have been achieved: the wild population of the rarest large cat in the world - the Far Eastern leopard - has grown more than 3 times, from 35 to 129 adults. This is a rare and bright result of active conservation work, which deserves to be widely noted.
The Far Eastern leopard is a bright symbol of Primorye, unlike other large cats, it lives only in this region. However, they know much less about him in our region than about his fellow Amur tiger.
> Over the years of the celebration of the Leopard Day in Vladivostok, the recognition of this festival has increased. In 2024, the number of people who came to the holiday in leopard costumes, compared to the first year of celebration, increased several times and amounted to more than 60 people. This suggests that people are interested in the format of the holiday, and they prepare for it in advance. This fact is evidence that a new tradition is emerging in Vladivostok, which gradually weaves the image of the Far Eastern leopard into Russian culture
The festival "Leopard Day" gives an opportunity to tell residents and guests of Vladivostok about the Far Eastern leopard, part of the population of which, in fact, lives including on the territory of the Vladivostok urban district (Peschany Peninsula). In addition, thanks to the festival, its participants in a visual and fascinating form receive information about the work on the preservation of a rare animal.
Central events of the festival Leopard Day
A quiz about the Far Eastern leopard: during the concert, the presenter will offer to check the guests of the holiday for knowledge about the Far Eastern leopard, about the work of the National Park "Land of the Leopard". Participants will be asked to answer 5-7 questions. The first responders will receive souvenirs and leopard cards from the School of Creative Industries.
Creative competition for the best Leodevice and LeoOlodets: One of the brightest elements of the holiday is the defile of guests who came to the festival in the brightest leopard costumes. All of them will be invited to show their outfit, making a walk through the stage or performing a creative number: a poem, a song or their performance. Each of the participants of the competition will receive a souvenir from the Land of the Leopard, and the owners of the two most striking costumes and performances will receive prizes from the festival partners.
Leopard race: when organizing the RunDNSRun running club, a traditional mass leopard race takes place in front of the main stage of the festival. Guests of the holiday in leopard costumes do a joint warm-up, after which they jog along the Health Path.
Concert: musical groups, creative groups from Primorsky Krai perform on the stage
