Square with a rich history in the center of Vladivostok

>History of the origin of the park

At the end of the XIX century, a garden was laid out on this place, which eventually grew into a small park. It was located on the territory of the port commander’s estate, on the site of which the House of Fleet Officers is now located. This is the neighborhood with the Admiral Wharf, located on the site of the 33rd berth - and was the reason why it got its name.

> At the beginning of its history, when there was still a manor on the site of the Dof, the square was closed for visiting. Residents and guests of the city could walk there only on days of big holidays and solemn events. Now it is open to everyone, and nothing prevents you from enjoying the view of the bay and fresh sea air. Perhaps you will even hear the sound of “skies” – bells, which measure the time of watch on the ship

>Sights of Admiral Square

The square descends down the hillside from Svetlanskaya Street to the Ship Embankment. At its top is a monument – the head of Neptune. His gaze is turned to the site where city events take place in the summer.

Going down below, you will see one of the most impressive buildings of the square - the Arc de Triomphe, the sea gate of Vladivostok. The first such arch was built in 1891 in honor of the visit of Tsesarevich Nicholas to Vladivostok. In 1923, the royal coats of arms and Orthodox symbols were removed from it and renamed from Triumph to Komsomol. In 1927, the building was completely demolished because it interfered with the passage of cars. The arch was restored from photographs and historical documents only in 2003.

Away from the arch are the bust of the flagship of the fleet of the 1st rank M.V. Viktorov and the monument to Ilya Muromets. The hero is depicted in an unusual image: he looks like a monk, not a warrior. There is an explanation for this: the historical prototype of Ilya Muromets, Ilia Pechersky, a strongman who lived in the XII century, at the end of his life accepted monasticism and four centuries later was listed as a saint. He is considered the patron of the Missile Forces and the Border Guard Service.

This monument is a gift from the residents of Krasnoyarsk to Vladivostok and all the defenders of the borders in the Far East. It was installed in 2012 and specially for the solemn opening ceremony, a particle of the relics of the saint was delivered to the city. It is stored in the nearby Church-chapel of St. Andrew the First-Called.

In 1987, the park installed a memorial sign in honor of the 130th anniversary of the Russian Hydrographic Service: a 36-pood bell, removed from the Bruce Lighthouse in the Slavic Gulf. It is placed on a pedestal decorated with a bas-relief with the flag of the Navy Hydrographic Service of the Navy and the inscription: "Hydrographers for geographical discoveries in the Far East of Russia."

Around the square is also a lot of interesting:Admorial-figinfigine:

It is also possible to climb from the ship's embankment. Go down to the promenade from the central square and turn left. When you approach the submarine, go upstairs - the square is immediately above it
