The bay was named in honor of the corvette "Vityaz", on board of which the future naval commander Stepan Makarov conducted research of the Far Eastern seas. The village of the same name was founded in the early XX century. For several decades, reindeer farming flourished here, which is reminded of the gaps in the forest (with their help deer were considered) and the spotted deer themselves, which sometimes appear in the eyes of people.
Then in the bay there was a naval base, abolished under the Soviet regime. In the 70s and 80s of the XX century, scientists chose Vityaz. Numerous scientific stations of the institutes of the FEB RAS conducted their field research there. In the 80s, for a number of reasons, scientific activity on Vityaz fell into decline.
In the early 80s of the 20th century, a center for training marine animals (beluga whales and seals) for military purposes was organized in Vityaz Bay. Having existed for a decade and a half and without bringing any serious success in strengthening the country’s defense capability, this enterprise ceased to exist.

When traveling from Vladivostok, it is important not to miss the exit from the federal highway A189 "Razdolnoye - Khasan". The landmark is the village of Sukhanovka on the left side and the bus stop. Further along the entire length, almost to Andreyevka, the path goes along an asphalt road.
The most difficult sections of the road are certain places in Andreyevka and the road itself to Vityaz. It is well-dusted and strong even in heavy rain, but it imposes certain requirements on the ground clearance of the car.
